Pieter Laurens Mol

Contemporary Artist

Pieter Laurens Mol, born in 1946 in Breda, is a Dutch photographer, sculptor and conceptual artist. He studied photography at the Academie voor Kunst / St Joost in Breda after training as a cabinetmaker. His approach to the art scene in the 1960s was through body art, that is, using the body as a subject. He then produced photographs and sculptures, and is interested in assembling various objects. From 1970 to 1980, he specialized in photographs of volatile and ephemeral materials such as smoke or shadow, which he called “photo-sculptures”. Like other conceptual artists in the late 1960s, he used photography to create personal worlds and visualize ideas rather than recording reality.
